Sermon to social kit
Turn one Sunday message into a week of short clips for Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts, with OpusClip. The setup, a 30-day posting plan and 3 caption prompts. From @mayorscript.
What you need
- The sermon as a video file (a phone recording or the livestream download). Clear audio matters more than a fancy camera.
- A free OpusClip account at opus.pro.
- About 20 minutes the first time, and about 10 minutes a week after that.
The setup, step by step
- Sign in to OpusClip and click Upload. On the free plan you upload the file itself (up to 10GB). Pasting a YouTube link needs a paid plan.
- Set the clip length to 30 to 60 seconds. That's the sweet spot for Reels and Shorts.
- If you only want part of the service (just the sermon, not the announcements), set the timeframe so OpusClip only looks at that part.
- Pick a caption style that's easy to read. Big, high-contrast captions work best, because most people watch with the sound off.
- Start it, then come back in a few minutes. OpusClip finds the strongest moments and cuts each one to vertical, with captions and a hook.
- Watch every clip before you post it. Drop any that cut a thought in half or take a sentence out of context.
- Download the ones you'll use the same day. Free clips expire after 3 days.

A 30-day posting plan
One message gives you a week. Repeat it every week:
| Day | Post |
|---|---|
| Monday | The strongest clip: the one moment people remember |
| Tuesday | A short, practical "do this today" moment |
| Wednesday | A story or illustration from the message |
| Thursday | A question the message answers (put the question in the caption) |
| Friday | An encouraging line for the weekend |
| Saturday | "Tomorrow at our church": a clip plus your service time and address |
| Sunday | Go live or post the service, then record the next message |
Post at the same time every day. Consistency beats volume.
3 caption prompts
Paste the clip's transcript (OpusClip shows it) into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini with one of these.
Here is a transcript of a 45-second sermon clip. Write a social media caption: the first line must make someone stop scrolling, then 2 short lines on why it matters this week, then one question people can answer in the comments. Warm and plain, no hype, no more than 3 hashtags. Transcript: [paste]
From this sermon transcript, give me 5 short on-screen hook lines (8 words or fewer each) I could put over the first 2 seconds of a clip. Each should promise something true that the clip delivers. Transcript: [paste]
Turn this sermon transcript into a WhatsApp broadcast message for our church members: 4 sentences, one key thought, one practical step for the week, and the time of our next service: [time]. Transcript: [paste]
Good practice
- Check that every clip still says what the preacher meant, in context.
- Get the preacher's OK on the clips before they go out.
- Add your church name and service time to the profile bio, so viewers know where to find you.
